Tehran (IP) - Deputy Secretary of the National Security Council of Uzbekistan has said spread of terrorism in Afghanistan must be prevented, stressing that peace in Afghanistan must be demanded globally.

Iran PressIran News: Speaking at the Second Regional Security Dialogue conference in Tehran on Wednesday, Baber Shah Yakubov said that the participating states in the Second Regional Security Dialogue have common stances on regional security and should seize the opportunity to reduce existing security challenges.

He stated that stability in Afghanistan would increase security in Central Asia, the Middle East, and East Asia, adding that Uzbekistan would do its best to cooperate to achieve regional peace and security in Afghanistan.

Yakubov said regional countries should prevent the spread of terrorism in Afghanistan and called for development of the country and the improvement of its damaged economy to ensure security there.

The official added that investment by regional countries to create jobs in Afghanistan could be the first step to economic prosperity for the country.

He further described the international extremism as a serious threat to world peace and stability.

"Some countries have a double standard policy on counter-terrorism, which prevents real action against terrorists, the Uzbek official stressed.

The Deputy Secretary of the National Security Council of Uzbekistan will meet with the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani this afternoon to discuss bilateral issues.

The Second Regional Security Dialogue got underway in Tehran on Wednesday morning.

The national security advisers and top security officials from Iran, Russia, China, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan have participated in the one-day meeting hosted by the secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.

The meeting focuses on Afghanistan and the on-going fight against terrorism in the country.
