Speaking at the 65th anniversary meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade, Serbia, President Mahama said civilians caught in the conflict must remain the priority of the international community.
He stressed the need for respect for international humanitarian law, particularly the protection of non-combatants and the removal of barriers preventing aid agencies from reaching vulnerable populations.
“Humanitarian assistance must reach those who need it without obstruction,” President Mahama said, adding that global responses to conflicts must be guided by fairness and consistent application of international principles.
He urged NAM member states and the wider international community to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at ending conflicts and addressing the growing humanitarian challenges facing affected populations.
President Mahama’s remarks form part of Ghana’s participation in discussions on global peace, security and cooperation at the Non-Aligned Movement meeting.
