Sheikh Zakzaky made the remarks on Sunday evening in Abuja while delivering his closing speech at this year’s Unity Week programme.
According to the prominent Nigerian Islamic leader, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) came with a message centred on the oneness of God, the establishment of justice and opposition to oppression. He said the forces that opposed the Prophet in the past were driven by the same hostility toward justice and divine guidance that he believes is reflected in the current conflict.
Sheikh Zakzaky stressed that Muslims must unite under a single banner in order to confront their adversaries. Speaking against division within the Muslim community, he called on Muslims to learn from Iran’s approach to unity.
He cited Tehran as an example, saying that the city has only one central Friday prayer congregation, which he described as a symbol of unity and collective strength among Muslims.
“This is unlike what we see in some Muslim and Arab countries, where numerous mosques are established in the same city or town, something that contribute to disunity,” Sheikh Zakzaky said.
Turning to what he described as the cruelty and inhumanity displayed by the enemies of humanity, the Islamic Movement leader condemned the ongoing military and economic pressure against Iran by the United States and Israel.
He particularly accused the United States and Israel of deliberately targeting schoolchildren in Minab, Iran, noting that the school was struck three times with the intention of killing children.
Sheikh Zakzaky further emphasized that Iran has now emerged as a global power despite the military pressure against it.
“Whether they like it or not, Iran has now become a superpower after humiliating and totally defeating the powers of global arrogance,” he said.
The Sheikh concluded by urging Muslims to strengthen their unity, arguing that collective solidarity remains essential in confronting oppression and defending the dignity and independence of the Muslim world.
