Tehran (IP) - Iran's foreign minister said on Thursday that the Islamic Republic has a bright future ahead of it given Iran's independence, self-belief, determination, resilience, and given Iran's advances in science and technology and use of internal resources, talents, and capabilities.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking at a scientific conference at Tehran University of Medical Sciences on Thursday, Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed the vital importance of scientific research.

Zarif also stressed the important role people play in the country, saying we mustn't ignore the important role played by the people, pointing to Late Imam Khomeini's well-known saying that 'we are nothing without the people and the people are the benefactor'.

Zarif said if we use the enormous capabilities of the people, then we can solve all problems.

According to an Iran Press report, Zarif added: "The United States from the outset [of the 1979 Islamic Revolution] has been trying to hurt the Islamic Republic, aiming to topple our government. It has done everything it can, including organizing anti-Iran conferences such as the recent 13 February conference in Warsaw Poland, but all of it has failed because the world is no longer American-centric or Western-centric."

Foreign minister Zarif added: "Iran is independent, and we chose to be independent. We created our independence, and this is the most important reason for America's failure and defeat."

Earlier on May 1, 2018, Zarif told a group of students that pressures might be piled up on the country, but what makes Iran different to others is that its power and progress is based on 'ordinary people thriving'.

The Iranian foreign minister continued by saying: "Today, we have special conditions worldwide, and a transitional period is not something new. After the collapse of the Eastern block, the world faced a new phenomenon as it did in the past. For almost 40 years or more,  the world was bipolar. The order is something predictable and measurable and you can witness its result, but such an order was destroyed after the cold war."

He said that he believes the cold war had a loser, but no one considered himself a winner (of the cold war). "Americans spent too much after the cold war."

The form of competitions has changed because the source of power has changed and components of power are no longer the makers of military equipment, Zarif added.
