A shooting incident near the White House on Saturday evening resulted in the death of an armed suspect and left a bystander injured. According to media reports and law enforcement officials, the 21-year-old attacker approached a security checkpoint outside the executive mansion and opened fire before being engaged by Secret Service agents.

The incident occurred around 6:00 PM Eastern Time near the White House grounds. Reports from CNN and ABC News indicated that journalists and staff inside the building heard what sounded like dozens of gunshots, prompting a security lockdown with snipers deployed on the roof.

The suspect, identified as Nasir Bast, approached Gate 17 and fired shots toward the building or at officers. Secret Service agents returned fire, striking the suspect. He was transported to George Washington University Hospital with critical injuries but was later pronounced dead.

During the exchange of fire, a civilian bystander was struck by a bullet and sustained wounds. Law enforcement officials stated that the suspect never breached the interior perimeter of the White House complex.

An American official cited in reports claimed that the suspect suffered from mental health issues. It was also revealed that Bast had a history of legal restrictions, including a previous order barring him from approaching the White House vicinity. The Secret Service is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
