Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations vehemently rejected baseless U.S. allegations linking Tehran to an alleged drone attack on the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates.

In a formal letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council, requesting to be issued as an official document of the Security Council, Amir Saeid Iravani addressed statements made by the U.S. representative during the May 19, 2026 session on the "Situation in the Middle East."

Iravani underscored that Iran itself has been a victim of acts of aggression by the U.S. and the Zionist Regime against its own peaceful nuclear facilities, which operate under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He warned that any attack on peaceful nuclear infrastructure constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and IAEA resolutions, posing catastrophic humanitarian and environmental risks.

The Iranian mission highlighted a blatant contradiction in Washington’s position, stating: "The U.S., the only country to have ever used nuclear weapons, alongside the Zionist Regime, targeted Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, Isfahan, and Bushehr during two illegal and brutal wars in June 2025 and February 2026." The letter characterized these actions as grave breaches of international humanitarian law and the UN Charter.

Iravani asserted that the primary source of instability in the region remains the destructive activities and recurring acts of aggression by the U.S. and the Zionist Regime, noting that the current regional situation is the direct result of these illegal wars against Iran.

Refuting the U.S. narrative, the letter contrasted Iran's compliance with its commitments under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) with the status of the Zionist Regime, which remains outside the treaty’s framework. Iravani further pointed to Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA, in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, as clear evidence of the U.S. administration's inherent lack of credibility.

The letter concludes by calling for the international community to hold the U.S. and the Zionist Regime fully accountable for the destruction of civilian infrastructure and war crimes committed against the Iranian nation. It urged the Security Council to reject misleading political narratives that serve only to divert attention from the true architects of regional instability.
