In the statement, the ministry said the U.S. economic and trade embargo imposed on Cuba since 1960, following the Cuban Revolution, constitutes a clear violation of Cuba’s national sovereignty and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly the right of nations to self-determination.
Tehran argued that the long-standing sanctions have resulted in severe human rights violations and extensive economic hardship for the Cuban people.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry further stated that the “illegal and inhumane” U.S. sanctions against Cuba — described as the longest-running sanctions regime imposed on any country — amount to a “crime against humanity” because of their widespread humanitarian consequences. It added that the United States should be held accountable for 'decades of unlawful actions against the Cuban nation.'
The statement also condemned recent U.S. measures aimed at tightening sanctions and enforcing 'a maritime blockade against Cuba.' According to Tehran, Washington’s actions, coupled with what it described as “provocative and baseless allegations,” are intended to intimidate and pressure the Cuban government.
Iran characterized the measures as another example of American unilateralism and “bullying,” calling on the international community and the United Nations to denounce such actions.
Reaffirming its solidarity with the Cuban government and people, Iran stressed the importance of respecting national sovereignty, non-interference in domestic affairs, and ending unilateral coercive measures against developing nations.
