Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Mehdi Rabbani

The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Mehdi Rabbani has stressed that developing Iran-China ties will help both countries build sustainable economic security.

Iran Press/ Asia: "Iran and China have long-standing military relations," Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Mehdi Rabbani, said on Sunday.

Referring to the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in creating security in the region, especially with regards to secure energy supplies, Rabbani said: "China is one of the major energy importers from West Asia and the Persian Gulf." 

"Given their shared goals and interests, developing Iran- China relations will help both countries build sustainable economic security through military cooperation and development of economic ties," he added.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, General Rabbani arrived in China to take part in the 9th Xiangshan Security Forum.

In further comments Brigadier General Rabbani said the aim of the Xiangshan Summit is to discuss security developments and to fight terrorism.

"Considering the excellent experience Iran has had in combating terrorism, including fighting ISIS terrorists over the past decade, it can play a very effective role at the summit in expressing views and creating sustainable security," the senior military official added.

The  Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces is scheduled to attend the 9th Xiangshan International Security Forum, which will be held in Beijing for three days, with representatives from 70 countries attending. Brigadier General Rabbani will deliver a keynote speech at the Security Forum.
