Syrian FM condemns the recent Israeli aggressions and blind airstrikes on Damascus and its countryside as an attempt to prolong the terrorist war on Syria.

Iran Press/Middle East: In two identical letters sent to the UN Secretary-General and Head of the Security Council, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria said this aggression attempts to raise the morale of the remaining terrorist hotbeds that are subservient to the Israeli occupation, SANA reported.

The Ministry stated that the recent wave of airstrikes on Damascus and its countryside is an attempt by the occupation authorities intended to divert public attention away from their escalating internal problems.

“Syria affirms that Israel’s persistence in its dangerous aggressive behavior wouldn’t be possible without the unlimited support of the US administration and the immunity provided to it by the US and other Security Council member-states,” the letter stated.

The Ministry reiterated calls for the Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities as per the UN Charter and take immediate and decisive steps to prevent Israeli attacks from reoccurring, to force Israel to respect resolutions on disengagement and to hold it accountable for its crimes against the Syrian and Palestinian peoples.

On January 21, Syrian air defenses intercepted and destroyed most of the Israeli guided missiles fired from ground and air in several rounds over the capital city of Damascus before they hit targets.

Earlier on January 20, Syrian air defenses repelled another Israeli air raid on southern region. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, four Israeli F-16 launched guided missiles into the Syrian territory. Seven missiles were intercepted, with no damage reported on the ground.

The Tel Aviv regime has recently increased its airstrikes on Syria. The Syrian government has on multiple occasions slammed the Israeli regime's aggression and also warned about the 'dangerous repercussions' of Israeli airstrikes on its territories.
