Gholam Hossin Mohseni Ejei tld his Russian counterpart Igor Krasnov: "Over the past two years, the United States and the Zionist regime have exhausted all their resources and capabilities in an attempt to impose an unjust and illegal war on Iran. However, thanks to the resilience and steadfastness of the Iranian nation, they have failed to achieve their objectives."
The judiciaries of Iran and Russia can play a significant role in addressing legal and judicial matters and countering injustice, he said.
Russia’s top judicial official has praised the “steadfastness and courage” of the Iranian people and called for closer legal and judicial cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, as Iran seeks to use BRICS judicial diplomacy to deepen ties with major non-Western powers.
Igor Krasnov, chief justice of Russia’s Supreme Court, made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with Iran’s Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei on the sidelines of the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in New Delhi.
Krasnov said Russia and Iran were confronting unprecedented external pressure, politically motivated interpretations of international law and unilateral sanctions. He said the two countries were united in their determination to defend their national independence.
Krasnov said Iran’s participation in BRICS judicial cooperation had opened new opportunities for closer interaction between the two countries’ judicial institutions.
He also proposed establishing a reliable legal framework and concluding a formal judicial cooperation agreement with Iran.
“In order to strengthen our relations in the field of justice, I propose establishing a reliable legal foundation and concluding a cooperation agreement,” Krasnov said, according to Russian reports.
The proposed agreement would seek to provide a more structured basis for cooperation between the two countries’ highest judicial institutions, including efforts to develop common approaches capable of protecting legitimate cross-border businesses and investors.
Mohseni-Ejei has used his meetings to promote judicial cooperation as part of a broader effort to strengthen Iran’s relations with countries outside the Western alliance system.
In talks with Zhang Jun, president of China’s Supreme People’s Court, he said Tehran was firmly determined to expand ties with Beijing, noting that stronger legal and judicial links could serve as a “supporting arm” for wider strategic cooperation.
The two sides discussed the exchange of judicial expertise and the implementation of existing memoranda of understanding, with artificial intelligence and digital technologies emerging as key areas for cooperation.
Mohseni-Ejei separately met Andrei Shved, chairman of Belarus’ Supreme Court, where the two sides discussed expanding judicial cooperation and technological exchanges.
Shved welcomed closer relations with Tehran and invited Mohseni-Ejei to visit Belarus. He also said Minsk was prepared to work toward a new memorandum of understanding on judicial cooperation.
