Belgrade (IP) - Iranian athletes snatched one gold medal and two bronze medals in the world competitions of Savate (French boxing) held in Serbia.

Iran PressIran news: The Head Coach of Iran's Savate Team, Vahid Sanaei, said that in the competitions, which ended on July 5 in Serbia, competitors from 30 countries competed with each other.   

Sanaei mentioned Mohammad Reza Rezaei in the -52 kg weight category and Benjamin Vahdati in the -70 kg weight category as the winners of the bronze medals.

He also mentioned Alireza Maqsoodi, who defeated his Croatian, Serbian, and Italian rivals in the -75 kg weight category and won over a Ukrainian opponent in the final competitions, achieving the first gold medal of Iran's savate history in the youth age category.

Savate, also known as savate boxing, French Boxing, or French foot fighting, is a French kickboxing combat sport that uses the hands and feet as weapons combining elements of English boxing with graceful kicking techniques.

Only foot kicks are allowed, unlike some methods such as Muay Thai, which allow the use of the knees or shins.

Savate is a French word for "old shoe or boot." Savate fighters wear specially designed boots.

A male practitioner of savate is called a tireur, while a female is called a tireuse.
