Pakistan praises Iranian navy role in boosting regional security

A top naval commander of Pakistan Peace and Friendship Group has praised Iran's navy role in boosting security of Indian ocean region.

Iran Press/ Asia: Navy Commander of Pakistan Peace and Friendship Group Commodore Muhammad Saleem praised the role of Iran's navy in regional security as a "critical" one for the region, according to Iran Press News Agency.

Reiterating prominent role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in increasing security of the region as a key, he said that patrolling in the Indian ocean is done by regional countries.

In a ceremony in Bandar Abbas, in southern province of Hormozgan and on the deck of Kheybar Destroyer, attended by diplomats and military attaches from various countries, including Turkey, Germany,  and the deputy British ambassador, Australian ambassador, Saleem said: “these patrols have been able to provide security in the Indian Ocean region.”

Commodore Muhammad Saleem added: "Pakistan government believes in promoting security in the region and in this regard, Pakistani navy has a permanent presence in the Indian Ocean to fight pirates." 

Recalling historical and religious commonalities which date back to many years, giving rise to significant military ties between the two nations, Pakistani commander emphasized that over the past few years, frequent visits have been conducted from Bandar Abbas ports in Iran and Karachi Port in Pakistan between navy forces of the two countries and visiting Pakistan Navy flotilla to Bandar Abbas will enhance bilateral relationship between Iran and Pakistan.

“Enhancing trade and business activity in Gwadar Port of Pakistan and Iran’s Chabahar Port as well as establishing maritime security by the naval forces of the two countries will boost economic prosperity of Tehran and Islamabad,” he continued.

Also in the ceremony, Commander of the first zone of Iran's Navy Rear Admiral Mojtaba Mohammadi reiterated that Iran and Pakistan share national and religious commonalities which will promote bilateral relations.”

"Cooperation of Indian Ocean littoral states especially cooperation between naval forces of the two countries will play an important role in security and safety of maritime operations in the Indian Ocean,” Iranian Commander said.

In line with Pakistan’s maritime tradition and to further strengthen the existing warm and cordial bilateral relations, a Pakistan Navy Flotilla comprising four Navy Ships docked at Bandar Abbas port, Iran on 6 January.
