An adviser to the Iranian president has said that Iran and Japan are determined to expand their bilateral ties.

Iran PressAsia: In a message on his Twitter account on Saturday, Hessameddin Ashna said Tehran and Tokyo are going to achieve expansion of their ties despite US maximum pressures.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani concluded his two-day visit to Japan on Saturday during which he met Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Following the meeting, he tweeted that Iran will not shy away from any negotiations or agreements in line with the country's national interests.

Iran welcomes any plan that can increase economic exchanges particularly in the energy sector and boosting exports and oil sales, he wrote.

"The two countries can promote relations and cooperation in many fields, including energy, science and technology, medicine, tourism, sports, customs, industry, and economic and commercial fields," Rouhani said in a meeting with the Japanese premier.

Referring to the United States’ unjust and illegal sanctions against Iran after its withdrawal from the nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Rouhani added, “The US’ unilateral withdrawal from international agreements like the JCPOA poses a threat to global peace and security.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes any effort by any country in saving the JCPOA and protecting peace and stability in the region and the world, Rouhani told Shinzo Abe. "Naturally, we do not turn down any negotiation and agreement that serve our interests.”
