Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), has said the presence of US forces in the region is a long-term threat to democratic and independent governments which rely on domestic potentials rather than foreign powers.

Iran Press/Iran news: Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani made the remark in a meeting with the speaker of Iraq's parliament, Mohammad al-Halbousi and accompanying delegation in Tehran on Wednesday, Iran Press reported.

Shamkhani stressed that the costly ISIS invasion of Iraq showed that the United States, in times of crisis, is not prepared to defend the people and governments against the terrorist elements, and uses all its weapons and intelligence capabilities for the management of terrorism and exploits the phenomenon as a tool.

For his part, the speaker of the Iraqi parliament Mohammad al-Halbousi noted that Iran plays an important role in creating security and stability in the region, and the defeat of the Takfirist terrorism, without the presence and active role of Iran, was impossible.

Al-Halbousi denounced the use of the leverage of unilateral sanctions against other countries, saying: "We will not allow any country to use Iraqi soil to act against another country."

He said the unbreakable ties between the two nations, along with religious and cultural commonalities and the will of the leaders of the two countries, have put forward unique areas of common interest for Iran and Iraq. 101/211/213/201
