EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Wednesday that the European Union and the United Nations will continue to support the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Europe: According to an Iran Press report, speaking on the occasion of United Nations Day, which marks the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945, Mogherini said: "Together, the EU and UN have been, are and will be the strongest champions of dialogue and cooperation." 

She added: "This is why we will continue to defend multilateral diplomacy and its achievements, from the Iran nuclear deal to the Paris agreement on climate change, and to support the essential work of all UN agencies." 

She went on to say: "International rules, organizations and jurisdictions are a guarantee for all. That's why we will always continue to invest in a strong UN system. Together – as we celebrate UN Day – we will stay a force for change."

Since the US unilateral withdrawal of the JCPOA on May 8, the European Union has continued backing the multilateral nuclear deal, supporting Iran's right to enjoy the economic benefits of the nuclear deal.
The EU announced that its new mechanism to facilitate payments for Iranian exports would be legally in place by Nov. 4, when the next phase of U.S. sanctions hit.

The announcement came despite massive efforts by the European allies of the US to convince Trump to stay in the 2015 deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The deal was reached between Iran and the 5+1 Group, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council –  US, France, Britain, Russia and China – plus Germany.

On October 24, the Turkish foreign minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu has said his country has conveyed to the US the necessary demands to get an exemption from sanctions against Iran.

Earlier on October 13, 2018, French President Emmanuel Macron, in an interview with FRANCE 24 and RFI said that  exiting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) would be catastrophic.

Furthermore, on Sep 26, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met with President Emmanuel Macron of France at the UN headquarters in New York Tuesday evening and stressed maintaining nuclear deal.

Hassan Rouhani highlighted the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the international agreement to illegal conduct and illegality and emphasized the international community's commitment to confronting unilateralism and maintaining peace.

Also on September 26,  Rouhani in his meeting with British prime minister Theresa May said the illegal withdrawal of the United States from JCPOA has dismayed and angered the international community.

Despite US President Donald Trump's hostile policy towards the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said  on October 6, that the EU should remain strong on its' commitment to the historic Iran nuclear deal.

British Ambassador to Iran Rob Macairealso  said on October 14, compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an international agreement is the basis of 'our relations with Iran'.

More over,  Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said  on  October 22,  that Donald Trump administration could smoothen the way for dialogue by adhering to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and stopping its' unilateral sanctions.
