Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met with President Emmanuel Macron of France at the UN headquarters in New York Tuesday evening and stressed maintaining nuclear deal.

Iran Press/Irannews: The meeting was held at a time when both the Iranian and French presidents in their speeches at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly earlier in the day took stance against the policies of the US administration against the 2015 nuclear deal struck between Iran and six world powers and the country's unilateralism, IRNA reported. 

Presidents of Iran and France emphasized the need for efforts to develop relations and cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, including commercial, economic, financial and energy exchanges, adding that there is no obstacle to the expansion and deepening of cooperation between the two countries.

Hassan Rouhani highlighted the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the international agreement to illegal conduct and illegality and emphasized the international community's commitment to confronting unilateralism and maintaining peace.

In recognition of France's condolences and sympathies with the Iranian people in the Ahwaz terrorist attack, the president recognized terrorism as a major threat to the international community and called for the development of bilateral relations and cooperation for a comprehensive struggle against terrorism in the region and the international community.

Emmanuel Macron also condoled the Iranian people on the assassination of a number of Iranian people in the Ahwaz terrorist incident, pointing to the need to preserve their will.
The French president has keen on engaging with Iran as an influential country in the region to face against global terrorism, adding that we must strive to expand our cooperation against terrorism and unilateralism in the world.

Rouhani arrived in New York Sunday evening to attend the high profile meeting.

During his stay in New York, Rouhani has already held meetings with American political elites, his Cuban, Bolivian and Turkish counterparts, head of the International Olympic Committee, director of the International Monetary Fund, Chief Executive of Afghanistan and Norwegian prime minister.

The Iranian president also delivered speeches at the UN General Assembly and a meeting commemorating late South African leader Nelson Mandela besides giving interviews to NBC, CNN and PBS networks.
