Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister has said the Europeans cannot trigger a dispute resolution mechanism within the JCPOA because his country has not breached the agreement and is only engaged in remedial action.

Iran Press/Iran news: In response to a question by Iran Press about European's claim that if Iran continues to reduce its nuclear commitments, they may implement a trigger mechanism, he said, "The trigger mechanism within JCPOA is designed for initial violations of the nuclear agreement. Iran has not committed any such initial violation."

The Foreign Minister added measures that Iran is taking are in response to the earlier US violations and Europe's inability to respond to those violations.

"They are remedies and according to the legal rules nobody can take a remedy in response to another remedy," he said referring to Iran's decision to scale down its commitment under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He said, "Iran's action is a response to their violation, and they cannot take remedial action in response to remedial action."

A year after the 2018 US exit from the nuclear deal between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany, Tehran announced reductions to its nuclear commitments. 101
