Globally, more than 1,000,000 people have tested positive and more than 53,000 have died from COVID-19, according to Johns Hopkins University.

On Thursday, the coronavirus death toll in the US reached almost 6,000 on Thursday and nearly 240,000 cases have been confirmed across the country. 

In New York City alone, more than 49,700 cases had been confirmed and 1,562 deaths reported as of 5 p.m. Thursday, according to the city's health department. The state overall has more than 92,300 cases and more than 2,300 deaths, according to an NBC News count.

The coronavirus pandemic death toll in Spain passed 10,000 on Thursday, as the country reported its highest single-day number of deaths since the outbreak began with the total rising by more than 1,000 to 10,348 among 112,065 infections.

South Korea says more than 27,000 people are under 14-day self-quarantine in the county after it strengthened border controls to slow coronavirus infections linked to international arrivals.

Over 1,016,401 infections have been confirmed in at least 180 countries and territories.

Park Jong-hyun, an official from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said Friday that 19,567 of those under self-quarantine have recently returned from overseas while another 7,499 were isolated after contacting virus carriers.

There are now more than 10,000 confirmed cases in South Korea with at least 174 deaths.

China's health commission reported on Friday four new coronavirus cases bringing the total to 3,322 as of the end of Thursday.

China also reported 60 new asymptomatic cases of the virus.

The death toll from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Italy, reached to 13915 with 760 new reported deaths.

Italy on Thursday reported another 760 deaths from the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 13,915, the highest in the world.
