Tehran (IP) - Iran's first vice president praised the medical community’s role in the country's affairs, saying that the medical staff did a great job during the coronavirus outbreak and their exceptional work will be recorded in the history of Iran.

Iran Press/Iran News: Eshaq Jahangiri, Iran's first vice president, at the commemoration ceremony on National Doctors Day, noted that the medical community has always been prominent and respected by the people, adding that the physicians are most trusted by people.

Pointing to the sacrifices made by the medical staff, Jahangiri said: "To treat the coronavirus patients, when all the sick relatives left him, the medical community and the nurses stood to the point that sometimes they even lost their lives."

“We have lost 164 doctors, nurses, and members of the medical staff due to the coronavirus,” he added.

Jahangiri also said that all countries that blocked Iranian money in their accounts in this situation must be held accountable.

Jahangiri's remarks came during a ceremony held on Thursday in Tehran to pay tribute to health defenders on the occasion of National Doctors Day, where he and Iran's Minister of Health and Medical Education Saeed Namaki were present as the keynote speakers of the event.
