After torrential rains in northern, western and southwestern Iran, the military forces mobilized efforts to help people trapped in flood-stricken areas and help evacuate local residents in regions where an emergency has been declared.

Iran Press/Iran news: The top commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has paid a visit to flood-hit districts of Lorestan Province -- a province which has taken the brunt of recent flooding.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari arrived in Lorestan Province to see for himself the situation on the ground, to inspect flood damage as well as relief and rescue operations by the armed forces, Iran Press reported.

Residents in vast areas of Lorestan inundated by floodwaters are in dire need of relief aid, the Army Ground Force, the IRGC, and Basij have deployed forces, heavy military machinery, aircraft and boats to the disaster zones.

The IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour also visited Khorramabad in person. He said the IRGC Ground Force’s helicopters have been deployed to the region for air rescue and delivery of relief aid.

Countrywide flooding, unleashed by heavy downpours since March 19, has killed scores of people and has really tested relief and rescue organizations, who are doing everything they can to aid and assist flood victims. 101/211/202
