Iranian media activists, students, and women staged a protest out of the Swiss embassy in Tehran to condemn Press TV Hashemi's detention.

Iran Press/Iran news: Students, Journalists and Media activists including women gathered together outside the Swiss embassy (US interest section in Tehran) on Sunday morning to condemn Press TV Anchor Marzieh Hashemi's illegal detention in the US.

Chanting 'Down with the USA' and carrying 'Free Marzieh Hashemi' placards, the protesters called for the immediate end of US unlawful detention of Press TV anchor.

Marzieh Hashemi was arrested at the St. Louis airport on January 13 and was transferred by the FBI to Washington. She has been jailed in the US for unspecified reasons.

Hashemi's illegal detention has led to reactions from outstanding political figures and bodies all around the world.

Iran's Majlis speaker, Ali Larijani, said on Sunday that Marzieh Hashemi's unlawful detention signifies that the US is just bragging about Human right in the world.

On January 18, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) expressed serious concern over the detention of Iranian journalist and Press TV anchor Marzieh Hashemi.

On January 19, the Head of the IRIB World Service, Peyman Jebelli said Marzieh Hashemi, who was arrested in the US, is a symbol of the Islamic Revolution, and her detention in the US is a political move to pressure the Islamic Republic of Iran.

IRIB chief criticizes detention of Press TV anchor

The Head of the IRIB World Service said: "Supporting Mrs. Hashemi is support for the Islamic Revolution and its achievements. And it is our revolutionary, Islamic, and legal duty to support Mrs. Hashemi."

Referring to the media hype relating to Marzieh Hashemi case particularly in the US, Jebelli added that Mrs. Hashemi's case is politically motivated, she has been jailed for political reasons, and it seems that US National Security Advisor John Bolton is behind it.

The Head of the IRIB World Service said the detention of Mrs. Hashemi is a political war that the US government is pursuing, and is seeking to put pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Earlier on January 16, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called the arrest of Marzieh Hashemi by US police a clear violation of freedom of speech. 203/103
