Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has emphasized that the dispute between Tehran and Washington is deep-rooted and long-term.

Iran PressIran news: In his inaugural speech at the opening ceremony of 32nd Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani said, "At the heart of Iran's dispute with the United States is that the US says all countries must respect US values, whereas we say all individuals are free to respect those values which guarantee their prosperity and salvation."

According to an Iran Press report, President Rouhani also congratulated everyone on the occasion of the auspicious birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny), and welcomed all the religious scholars, politicians, intellectuals, academics and personalities of the Islamic world who have gathered in Tehran, emphasizing that the main reason for the gathering is to bring Muslims closer together, in order to continue the path and the traditions of  Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny).

Addressing the audience, President Rouhani said: "Prophet Mohammad brought light and guidance for all the peoples of the world. He taught brotherhood for all the Muslims, and he taught peaceful coexistence for all the peoples of the world. Islam teaches us not just to respect Muslims, but to respect all human beings and to respect humanitarian values. Today, the Muslims of the world are proud to continue the traditions of Prophet Mohammad, to continue his ethics and morals, and to put into practice his words and teachings."

In further remarks, President Rouhani said: "Today, the conditions in our region are difficult. The situation in occupied Palestine, Libya, Syria, and Yemen is difficult, and the situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq is not what the Islamic community  expects. We are proud that the freedom that Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny) brought us is officially recognized. The heart of our dispute with the United States is that should freedom be for the West only, and everybody else should be in bondage? Or should freedom be for every individual, and every human being? The US wants the world to follow it, it wants the world to be subservient to it, to be in bondage. Central to our dispute with America is the issue of freedom and bondage."

The 32nd International Islamic Unity Conference opened in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Saturday morning with high-ranking officials from Muslim countries as well as Shiite and Sunni scholars in attendance.

The theme of the conference is ‘Quds pivot of Islamic unity’ and 350 foreign guests, including 10 ministers and 40 Muftis from Muslim states are taking part in the 32nd Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran. 101/211
