President Hassan Rouhani has emphasized that America's unilateralism and imposition of its own laws on other countries, particularly its extraterritorial laws, go against international laws and norms, and are fundamentally against 'freedom of nations'.

Speaking with the Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad by telephone on Thursday, President  Rouhani referred to the successful holding of elections in the country and congratulated Mahathir Mohamad on his re-election, saying: “I am confident that during your term of office, we will witness further development of relations between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur”. 

Rouhani also referred to the resources and capabilities of both Iran and Malaysia and stressed the importance of tapping them to further develop Tehran-Kuala Lumpur ties.

Stating that there are good opportunities for investment in Iran, the Iranian president said: “Iran is determined to further develop and strengthen relations and cooperation with Malaysia. We are ready to further develop economic, political and cultural relations between the two countries. Iran and Malaysia should cooperate with each other based on basic principles of foreign policy to promote peace and stability in the region, and the wider world. We should also join hands in fighting terrorism and extremism".

President Rouhani added: “We are committed to fighting terrorism,   and today, we are happy that ISIS terrorists have been defeated with the assistance we provided to the peoples of Iraq and Syria”. 

President Rouhani also congratulated the Malaysian government and people on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, saying: “We must introduce  the peoples of the world to merciful Islam,  to true Islam, we must show the  world that Islam is a religion of kindness, peace and peaceful coexistence”. 

For his part, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, congratulated the Iranian nation and government on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr , saying: “The policy of Malaysian government is to promote inclusive relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran”. 

He also referred to the importance of taking advantage of the capabilities and potentials in Iran and Malaysia in various areas of cooperation, including industrial, construction, science and technology, automotive industry, healthcare, and other fields, and stressed the development of cooperation between the private sectors and business communities of both nations. 

We are ready to cooperate with Iran in all fields related to fighting terrorism and extremism, as well as development of peace and stability in the world, said Mahathir Mohamad, adding: “We must attempt to improve the unpleasant picture that world public opinion has about Islam and Muslims”.
