Deputy chairperson of joint chiefs-of-staff of the Iranian Army, General Nami, has said: "The Persian Gulf is the most important waterway in the world and the Islamic Republic of Iran is trying to maintain security within this waterway".

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press news agency, on the sidelines of a conference at Iran's National Defense University ,General Mohammad-Hassan Nami added: "The world should respect Iran and its ability to secure the Persian Gulf".

Pointing out that the Persian Gulf is the most important body of water in the world General Nami said, it contains energy resources needed by the world, particularly the BRICS countries.

General Nami also said, the United States is trying to dominate  energy resources by dominating the Persian Gulf but soon BRICS or emerging powers will have a more active presence in the Persian Gulf.

He said, this issue will allow the Americans to leave the area soon and this is not good for America.

General Nami added: "The world should respect Iran and Iran's ability to defend against threats".
