PGA spokesperson hails Zarif for his stance on multilateralism

The spokesperson for the President of the UN General Assembly has expressed her gratitude to the Iranian foreign minister for his commitments to multilateralism.

Iran Press/America: In her speech on Thursday in high ranking session for commemorating and promoting international day of multilateralism and diplomacy for peace, Monica Grayley said: "In the meeting between Mohamad Javad Zarif and María Fernanda Espinosa, the two sides have stressed on UN role as the most democratic international body to address global problems;" Iran Press reported quoting IRNA.

"In the meeting, the two sides also exchanged their views about recent global and regional issues, including multilateralism, peace, and reforms in the UN," said the spokesperson for the President of the United Nations General Assembly.

In addition to this meeting, Iranian FM also attended in Asia Society in New York and met U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa and his Venezuelan counterpart Jorge Arreaza. 

According to UN website, earlier today, the General Assembly hosted the High-Level Meeting to commemorate and promote the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace.

In her remarks, the President of the General Assembly explained that multilateralism in the only way possible to solve global challenges.

María Fernanda Espinosa also stressed the importance of dispelling myths such that; multilateralism leads to less sovereignty for national States. She said that the opposite is the case: multilateralism instead reinforces sovereignty.

The President of the General Assembly recalled that in September, most of the world leaders who spoke at the General Debate clearly expressed their support for multilateral diplomacy. 212/ 104/213
