In the phone conversation between UN Secretary-General and the Iranian Foreign Minister, the latest developments regarding the extension of the ceasefire in Yemen were discussed.

Iran PressIran News: Saudi Arabia, with the support of the United States, the UAE, and several other countries, launched a military invasion of Yemen in March 2015, putting a land, sea, and air siege on the impoverished country.

Saudi Arabia’s warmongering in Yemen has so far killed hundreds of thousands of Yemenis, injured tens of thousands, and displaced millions.

The military aggression has also destroyed more than 85 percent of Yemen’s infrastructure, leaving the country severely short of food and medicine.

In this telephone conversation, while appreciating the Secretary General of the United Nations for his constructive efforts in establishing stability and security in the region, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the importance of lifting the humanitarian blockade of Yemen and the extension of the ceasefire.

After seven years of invading Yemen and killing thousands of people and destroying the country's infrastructure, these countries not only did not achieve their goals but were forced to accept a cease-fire following the missile and drone strikes of the Yemeni armed forces deep into their territory.

This ceasefire, which has lasted for 6 months, has been violated thousands of times by the aggressors and they have refused to implement some of its clauses.

A United Nations-brokered truce came into force in April between the coalition and Ansarullah. The truce has been extended twice ever since.

Yemeni officials criticize the Saudi-led coalition for its insufficient implementation of the main components of the ceasefire. 219
