Speaking to Iran Press on the sidelines of the opening ceremony in Tehran, Dr. Khan explained that the meeting will determine the number of ministerial meetings and key processes to be held throughout the year. "In this meeting, member states will volunteer to host ministerial meetings and various specialized processes. We will gain clarity on when to hold the Council of Ministers meeting and when the next Summit will take place," he said.
The Secretary General added that the gathering will also review the organization's progress in meeting the objectives set by the previous Summit and Council of Ministers meetings.
He emphasized that this year's meeting is particularly significant because, despite regional challenges and the security situation, all member countries have decided to organize and attend it—some virtually and some in person. "That, I believe, is a reflection of the importance that the membership attaches to the work of this organization," Dr. Khan stated.
He also took the opportunity to thank the Iranian government for its continued support of the ECO Secretariat over the past two months, even during a state of war. "We are very thankful to our Iranian colleagues for having kept the organization functional and operational," he said.
