The UN Security Council is to hold a meeting on Resolution 2231 which is related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on June 19, said the head of the UNSC.

There have been some new developments about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) including US withdrawal of the Deal, so the UNSC will discuss the issue with seriousness, said Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of June in a press conference, on Friday.

According to Resolution 2231, the UN secretary-general should give a report on the implementation of the JCPOA every six months. As the deal kicked off on June 2015, the report will fall on June 19.

Vasily Nebenzya was appointed on Friday as the rotary president of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

US President Donald Trump announced US withdrawal from the JCPOA on 8  May, and vowed to reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

Tehran has said it would make a decision on its future role in the nuclear agreement in the coming weeks following negotiations with the other signatories to the deal.

EU powers have scrambled to save the JCPOA and protect their businesses in Iran, after re-imposition of US sanctions.
