According to local media reports on Monday, at least 44 people were killed and 20 others are missing following last Sunday's flood in the northern Nigerian state of Katsina.

Region’s Governor Aminu Masari said, at least 44 people were killed and 20 others are missing following last Sunday's flood.

Aminu Masari said, over 500 homes have been destroyed due to the disaster. The disaster also resulted in many residents evacuating their homes and shops, because of the flood.

The flood mostly affected  the Jibia district of Katsina state. Heavy downpours, which reportedly started mid-day on Sunday, and lasted till the early hours of Monday morning, destroyed dozens of houses with more than 200 livestock confirmed killed.

The severe rainfall occured less than three weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari visited Katsina, his home-state to commiserate the victims and families of those affected by an earlier rainstorm.
