With 17 out of the 20 ballots cast in his favour, Pirouz Hannachi has become the provisional mayor of Tehran.

Iran news: According to an Iran Press report, the interior ministry must approve his appointment before Hannachi becomes officially the mayor of Tehran.

According to an announcement by the interior ministry, Mohammad Ali Afshani has retired, and today was officially his last day at work, at the municipal council offices, and the mayor's office in Tehran. Thus Tehran city council had the duty to vote for a new provisional mayor today.

Previously, Mohsen Hashemi the head of the Municipal council of Tehran, had said the current Mayor could remain in his post until Thursday 6 December 2018.

So far, the interior ministry has not approved Pirouz Hannachi's selection as the new provisional mayor of Tehran, but it is expected that the interior minister, Abdol Reza Rahmani Fazli will soon decide on whether to approve the appointment. 211/103
