Tehran (IP) - China's special envoy for Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun has met Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Tuesday, October 22.

Iran PressIran news: During the talks with China's special envoy for Middle East affairs, Iranian Foreign Minister highlighted strategic ties between Tehran and Beijing.

Chinese Senior diplomat hailed the strategic relations with Iran and said that Beijing attaches great importance to peace and stability in the Middle East, Iran Press reported.

Zarif pointed to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s new regional peace initiative, dubbed Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE), and said that Tehran welcomes Beijing’s positive role in ensuring regional peace and stability.

Zarif and Zhai Jun exchanged views about issues of bilateral and regional significance.

China's Special Envoy expressed his country's willingness to maintain contact with Iran in order to contribute to regional peace and stability.

In late August, Zarif paid a visit to China and met Chinese senior figures to promote strategic relations between the two nations.

In Beijing, Zarif and Chinese FM Wang Yi discussed bilateral relations, JCPOA, the security of the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, and the US sanctions imposed on Iran.
