While Islamabad says it will approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the Kashmir issue, fresh clashes have broke out between Indian and Pakistani border forces in Kashmir, leading to the killing of several individuals.

Iran Press/Asia: Pakistan's government announced Indian troops fired across the line of control in the disputed Kashmir region, killing several civilians and its forces killed six Indian soldiers; India's army rejected the claim as totally fake though, DW News reported.

Also on Tuesday, Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced Pakistan would take Kashmir issue to the United Nation's top judicial body, ICJ. "An in-principle decision has been taken to take the issue of disputed Kashmir to the International Court of Justice," he said.

He added the Pakistan government has taken the decision after considering every legal aspect of the matter, and that the matter would be brought before the court as soon as possible.

On August 6, 2019, India scrapped Article 370 initiating the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories that have a dramatic impact on the two neighbors.

Now, more than two weeks after India decided to withdraw special status from the region and deployed heavy security to avoid local protests, communication restrictions remain across the city of Srinagar, Kashmir.

Pakistan has announced that it will be downgrading diplomatic relations with India. It has also said it will be suspending bilateral trade with India.

India and Pakistan have fought several bitter wars over Kashmir, a mountainous, predominantly Muslim territory claimed by both countries. 101/211/218
