Tehran (IP) - Millions of Iranians participate in the religious ceremonies across the country on Tuesday night to mark the second night of Laylat al-Qadr at the night of Imam Ali's martyrdom.

Iran Press/Iran News: The second Laylat al-Qadr coincides with the night of April 11, the 20th day of Ramadan, and the 21st night of the holy month of Ramadan.

Iranians are marking Laylat al-Qadr or the Night of Destiny, the occasion when the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet of Islam some 14 centuries ago, with tremendous religious fervor. 

Millions of Iranians across the world will participate in religious ceremonies on Tuesday night to mark the second night of Laylat al-Qadr, one of the most significant hallmarks of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, also known as the Night of Destiny, the Night of Measure, or Night of Value.

The religious ceremony coincident with the night of the martyrdom of Imam Ali, the first Shiite Imam.

Muslims worldwide observe the occasion every year in the holy month of Ramadan by congregating in mosques and shrines for prayers.

No exact date is provided for the night of destiny, but all Islamic references are unanimous that the Quran was revealed to the prophet on one of three different dates: the 19th, the 21st, or the 23rd nights of the holy month of Ramadan.
