Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Nigeria, Sheikh Zakzaky questioned why Israel would demand that Hamas surrender its weapons as part of a ceasefire arrangement.
“This is cowardice. How can you fight an enemy and ask the enemy to surrender his weapon to you if you are not a coward? The Zionists just want to kill without being killed,” Sheikh Zakzaky said.
He added: “Surrender all your weapons so that we can easily kill all of you. That is what they are saying in the agreement.”
Sheikh Zakzaky said the Hamas resistance would not surrender its weapons under any pretext, but could accept a compromise that would involve the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied Palestinian territories.
According to him, under such an arrangement, the resistance could agree not to attack Israeli forces during their withdrawal. “But they will never say, ‘I will give you my weapon so that you will kill me,’” he said.
The Islamic Movement leader further described resistance to injustice as a natural phenomenon, arguing that continued Israeli aggression would inevitably lead to continued resistance.
“Any time Zionists continue the aggression, certainly there will be resistance. Resistance is a natural phenomenon, and the resistance, who are called Hamas, but it is the people of Palestine, they will never give up the struggle,” Sheikh Zakzaky said.
