The 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in Karbala was marked with significant gatherings in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Gilgit, and numerous other urban centers. Mourners from diverse regions convened to recite elegies and lamentations in Urdu, Persian, and Arabic, while young participants carried symbolic standards associated with Abul-Fadhl Abbas (AS), the revered standard-bearer of Karbala. Replicas of Thuljanah, the horse of Imam Hussain (AS), alongside other religious icons, featured prominently in the commemorations.
Traditional mourning rituals were performed by groups of devotees, with notable participation from attendees originating from Parachinar.
Against the backdrop of escalating regional tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, the processions assumed a distinctly political character. Several routes featured painted images of U.S. and Israeli flags, as well as portraits of U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as participants vocally denounced the policies of those regimes.
Conversely, Iranian and Palestinian flags were prominently displayed, and portraits of the martyred Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and current Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei were carried by segments of the crowd, underscoring the intertwining of religious sentiment with regional solidarity.
