The annual gathering reflects growing calls among participants for international recognition of Palestinian statehood and highlights continued solidarity with the Palestinian cause amid the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
This year's conference is held under the theme: "From Gaza to Tehran: The Decline of Western Hegemony."
Discussions focus on advancing Palestinian statehood and the challenges faced by supporters of Palestine, particularly during peaceful demonstrations in Nigeria.
The event features prominent Nigerian academics, political figures, and Islamic scholars.
Professor Mshalgaro, speaking to Iran Press: “If Palestinian sovereignty is not established before the agreement, then it will never happen. ... Israel is a kind of entity that does not abide by any agreement.”
“The central issue should not be limited to the disarmament of Hamas, but should address Palestinian sovereignty and the future status of the Palestinian territories,” he added.
The conference features Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Professor Abdullahi Danladi of Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Mshalgaro, and Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky as the special guest of honor.
Participants discussed pathways toward the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and expressed support for the Palestinian people.
Speakers also addressed challenges facing pro-Palestine activists in Nigeria.
