At least seven people were killed and dozens, including police personnel, were injured in a suicide bombing near Kabal Police Station in Pakistan's northwestern Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday evening.

According to Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand Division Syed Fida Hassan Shah, the blast occurred near Kabal Chowk, where a public demonstration for peace was underway. Police said the attacker detonated explosives while attempting to enter the Kabal Police Compound through the main gate.

The RPO said police personnel stopped the suicide bomber from entering the compound, which houses Kabal Police Station, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station, the Kabal Police Lines, and a public facilitation center.

Officials said five police personnel were among those killed, while dozens of people sustained injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, while security has been tightened across the area.
