Secretary General of Lebanese Hezbollah announced his firm opposition to the Lebanese movement's disarmament in a speech today, Saturday.

Why it matters:

These remarks come at a critical moment following the Israeli violations of the ceasefire, highlighting that in case of surrender, nothing will remain from Lebanon's sovereignty.

What he's saying:

Sheikh Naim Qassem declares the ceasefire marks a new chapter, needing changed tactics

"Lebanese state is responsible for sovereignty, defense, and army deployment; resistance supports and intervenes if the state fails."

He stressed that Hezbollah will continue defending Lebanon “under any circumstances,” adding that the movement’s weapons “will not be taken away, even if the whole world wages war on Lebanon.”

He questioned: “If the army cannot protect, should we demand its disarmament?,” concluding that calls for exclusive control of weapons are “an American‑Israeli demand.”
