Algeria's Ambassador to Iran said that the Yalda Night celebration is very similar to the Barakat celebrations in Algeria.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on the sidelines of Yalda Night festivals in Milad Tower, Tehran, Abdelmuonaam Ahriz said: "Yalda is a very old tradition, goes back to Zoretrian era. We have a very similar festival in Algeria; Amazigh new year to celebrate. This year, we are going to celebrate Amazigh in 2019," (the Amazigh year 2969 corresponds to the present year 2019).

He added: "The festival is celebrated on 12th January. We also celebrate the coming of winter especially its Barakat, agricultural season and good rain. In Algeria, they have a traditional meal that night and family reunited, grandmother, grandfather talk about old traditions and pray to have a very happy new year."

'Yalda Night', which is celebrated on 21 December, is a winter solstice celebration and is the last night of autumn and the longest night of the year. Iranians and Farsi speakers all around the world, celebrate the last night of autumn as the rebirth of the sun and the victory of light over darkness.
