The World Olympic Day 2026 ceremony, took place today in front of the 12,000-seat hall at the Azadi Sports Complex, which was targeted during the Ramadan War by American-Zionist enemy forces.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Olympic Day ceremony, Soraya Aghaei, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said: “Today is a significant day both for the National Olympic Committee and for the Olympic Movement. I consider Olympic Day as one of the most valuable occasions for promoting Olympic values, as it is a celebration of the core principles of the Olympic Movement including respect, friendship, and excellence.”

She added: “I believe this event provides a tremendous source of motivation for our children and young people. By participating in this celebration, they can become more familiar with Olympic values and the Olympic Movement itself. The presence of national champions at such events can also inspire them to choose their own path and, God willing, bring pride and honor to Iranian sports in the future.”

Addressing the war and the acts of aggression that recently occurred, Aghaei said: “Efforts were made to communicate these issues to the International Olympic Committee, and the IOC’s response was closely followed. Unfortunately, many tragic and distressing incidents took place during the course of the conflict."
