The event, attended by student leaders from various regions across Gombe State, featured speeches from scholars who highlighted the late leader's role in fighting oppression and the lessons young people seeking change should learn from him.
Prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Muhammad Abbare presented a brief history of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran. He explained that understanding this history would enable Nigerian students to appreciate the roots of the struggle and the tremendous contributions made by martyred Ayatollah Khamenei in supporting the revolution founder, Imam Ruhullah Khomeini. Abbare noted that this struggle ultimately led to the success of establishing justice and has now become a shield for the oppressed people around the world.
Yusuf Yusuf Mu'az, a Muslim students' leader and activist in the state, also addressed the attendees, stating that people across the globe are benefiting from the noble sacrifices made by Ayatollah Khamenei. He added that the positive outcomes of those sacrifices are not limited to Iranian citizens but have spread to different parts of the world, including the African continent.
Yusuf further urged Nigerian students to reflect on how Ayatollah Khamenei placed great importance on the pursuit of knowledge throughout his life.
"The history of Sayyed Ali Khamenei cannot be completed without mentioning the importance he attached to education. Today, the world has witnessed how Iran defeated the great enemies of humanity in the world; the US and Israel, forces that many believed no country could stand up against," Yusuf said. "Yet, Iran did not only stand against these two devils, but also gave them a crushing blow, leaving them utterly defeated. This victory was achieved through the emphasis on knowledge upon which martyred Khamenei built and guided the nation."
