The chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian parliament has stressed that the United States has lost its former status as the world's policeman, and Washington is no longer able to impose its will on other countries.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking on the sidelines of an open session of the Majlis on Tuesday, Mojtaba Zonnour, senior MP and chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian parliament welcomed the news that Britain won't support the USA in imposing new sanction against Tehran, although cautioning that Tehran does not trust London, given the recent [illegal] seizure of an Iranian supertanker near Gibraltar by Britain's Royal Marines.

Mojtaba Zonnour added: "Many countries have realized that following the USA is only to their detriment and won't benefit them in any way. Many countries have realized the disadvantages of following the United States. However, Tehran cannot be optimistic about London's true intentions, because unfortunately, we have rarely seen any honesty and fair and balanced stance from the British over the past decades, a recent case-in-point being the unfair impounding of an Iranian oil tanker by the British."

He went on to say: "The British must prove their bona fide intentions in practice. For example, the UK can purchase Iranian oil, as they have done in the past; they can assist Iranian banks to overcome their financial difficulties, they can do more to boost trade with Iran, and major British companies which left the Iranian market as soon as Donald Trump withdrew from the JCPOA and re-imposed sanctions on Tehran, can once again do business with Iran and return to the Iranian market. If the British did all that, then we can be optimistic about their intentions."   101/211
