Iraqi PM: Two delegations will be dispatched to Iran and United States

The Iraqi Prime Minister has talked of the imminent dispatch of two Iraqi diplomatic delegations, one to the Islamic Republic of Iran and another to the United States.

Iran Press/Middle East: Adil Abdul Mahdi emphasized that Iraq wants to calm down the situation and reduce tensions.

He said: "This is why we are sending two diplomatic delegations to Tehran and Washington. Contacts are being made at the highest level. Baghdad's approach to resolving the crisis is very similar to the European Union approach."

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, prime minister Adil Abdul Mahdi said both the Americans and the Iranians have indicated to us that they are not looking for a war and they don't want war.

The Iraqi Prime Minister added: "We are acting as a mediator and we pass on messages from Washington to Tehran and vice versa. We are actively working to reduce tensions."

In further comments, Adil Abdul Mahdi said: "My job is to defend Iraq, to protect the Iraqi people, and to keep the country away from the danger of war."

Referring to last Sunday's Katyusha rocket attack on Baghdad's Green Zone, the Iraqi Prime Minister said no Iraqi groups wish to start a war between Tehran and Washington.

He said all Iraqi groups and factions agree about the importance of reducing tensions in the region.
