Iraq’s Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi is set to visit Iran on 6 April for bilateral talks with senior Iranian officials.

Iran Press/Iran news: According to well-informed Iraqi sources, Abdul-Mahdi is scheduled to visit several regional countries including Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia within the next two weeks.

Iraq PM will pay a two-day visit to Tehran on April 6-7 at the official invitation of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Meanwhile, a high-ranking Iraqi delegation arrived in Iran on Tuesday. The delegation is slated to attend a joint economic forum with the members of Iran-Iraq chamber of commerce, Iran Press reported. 

Iranian president in a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, on 27 March, expressed his wishes to speed up implementation of agreements already signed between Tehran and Baghdad during his recent visit to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

President Rouhani at the head of a high-ranking political and economic delegation paid an official three-day visit from 11 to 13 Mar to neighbouring Iraq at the official invitation of his Iraqi counterpart, Barham Salih and Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.

President Rouhani also described his recent visit to Iraq as a turning point in Tehran-Baghdad relations, hoping that decisions made during the trip would be beneficial for both nations.

Referring to the signing of five cooperation deals between the two countries during his Baghdad visit, President Rouhani said Iraqi officials were keen to broaden their ties with Iran.

President Rouhani also talked with senior Iraqi officials including speaker of the Iraqi parliament and met the great Shia scholar and source of emulation, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali al-Sistani in the holy city of Najaf on the last day of his visit.

The signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) including Iraqi's agreement to issue visas for Iranians free of charge, and also five economic and trade pacts inked between the two countries were among the achievements of Rouhani's visit to Baghdad.

Today, the volume of trade between Tehran and Baghdad stands at around USD 12 billion. 101/211/205
