After a meeting of the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna, Austria, a statement was issued calling for full implementation of the nuclear accord, JCPOA.

Iran Press/Iran news: Under the terms of the JCPOA, the Joint Commission is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the nuclear deal, Iran Press reported.

The Joint Commission was chaired, on behalf of EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, by EEAS Secretary General Helga Schmid and, was attended by the E3+2 (China, France, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom) and Iran at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers.

Recalling that the JCPOA is a key element of the global non-proliferation architecture and significant diplomatic achievement of multilateral diplomacy endorsed unanimously by the UN Security Council through Resolution 2231, the participants reiterated their commitment to the continued, full and effective implementation of the JCPOA in all its parts.

Participants welcomed and acknowledged Iran's continued implementation of its nuclear-related commitments, as confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in fourteen consecutive reports, including in its latest quarterly report issued on 22 February, against a background of re-imposition of unilateral and unlawful US sanctions against Iran, and the effect of sanctions on Iran's economy.

The participants also commended the professional and impartial role played by the IAEA, the only body charged with monitoring and verification of the implementation by Iran of its nuclear-related commitments under the JCPOA and UNSecurity Council Resolution 2231.

On March 6, European External Action Service Helga Schmid said in her Twitter account: "This meeting is the first one after launching the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX)."

She added that the members of JCPOA are committed to INSTEX.

Participants recognized that, alongside implementation by Iran of its nuclear-related commitments, the lifting of sanctions allowing for the normalization of trade and economic relations with Iran constitute an essential part of the JCPOA.

The eleventh meeting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) joint commission kicked off in Vienna on 6 March 2019.

On January 31, the European Union announced the launch of a long-awaited direct payment mechanism meant to safeguard their trade ties with Tehran in the face of US sanctions. 103/211
