Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif criticised Trump for trying to abuse an upcoming United Nations Security Council meeting to turn it into an anti-Iran event.

Iran Press/Iran News: 'There's only one UNSC resolution on Iran. @realDonaldTrump is violating it & bullying others to do same,' Mohammad-Javad Zarif wrote on his Twitter page referring to the attempts by the President to press US allies to tighten the noose on Iran's economy.

'Now he plans to abuse presidency of SC to divert a session—item devoted to Palestine for 70 yrs— to blame Iran for horrors US & clients have unleashed across M.E. #chutzpah,' he said.

Donald Trump will preside over a UN Security Council meeting on Iran during the annual gathering of world leaders in New York, the US ambassador Nikki Haley said.

US officials have accused Iran of destabilizing the region. The allegations come amid the trade wars Washington is waging against many countries across the world and the numerous regimes of sanctions that the US is imposing on them.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, who assumed the Presidency of the Security Council for the month of September, said Tuesday that Trump was going to chair a meeting of the 15-nation body on Iran on September 26, where he would discuss Iran's “violations of international law” Reuters reported.

The United States, which holds the council presidency for September, has unsuccessfully pushed the Security Council to call out Iran. Haley has regularly attacked Iran, accusing it of meddling in the wars in Syria and Yemen.

Haley told reporters Trump was chairing the meeting “to address Iran’s violations of international law and the general instability Iran sows throughout the entire Middle East region.”

Diplomats said Iran could request to speak at the Sept. 26 meeting, the high-level week of the U.N. General Assembly. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is expected to address the assembly on Sept. 25. The Iranian U.N. mission did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Haley said the United States would not object to Rouhani speaking.

Russia’s Deputy U.N. Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy said the Iran meeting should focus on the implementation of a 2015 resolution on Iran.

“We very much hope that there will be views voiced in connection with the U.S. withdrawal” from a 2015 international nuclear deal, Polyanskiy told the council.

Trump pulled the US out of the landmark Iran nuclear deal, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in May, claiming the agreement was ineffective as it failed to halt Iran's nuclear activities and its development of ballistic missiles.

The US president also alleged that the JCPOA had placed no limits on Iran’s activities to influence conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and other parts of the Middle East.

Since its withdrawal from the JCPOA, Washington has sought to build up international pressure on Iran by re-instating Washington’s unilateral sanctions that were removed under the deal.

Part of the US illegitimate sanctions were imposed on Iran on August 9. Trump also said he would reinstate the US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

Last month US Secretary of State talked about  a "maximum pressure campaign" targeting Iran that will support protests in this country.
