Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks with Kuwaiti Emir and with EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on the sidelines of a conference in Kuwait on rebuilding Iraq.

ranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held a meeting with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah in Kuwait City on Wednesday.

During the meeting on the sidelines of an international conference on the reconstruction of Iraq, the Kuwaiti Emir underlined the importance of Iran's role in fighting the ISIL terrorist group and Tehran's assistance to the establishment of stability and economic development of Iraq.

He also expressed the hope that differences and problems between the regional states would be resolved through talks and prudence of their governments.

Zarif, for his part, appreciated the Kuwaiti Emir's efforts to mediate for the settlement of the current regional crises, voicing hope that they would yield results.

The two sides also stressed the need for the further expansion of bilateral ties and increase in direct contacts between the two countries' high-ranking officials.

Earlier today, Zarif and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah in a meeting in Kuwait discussed broadening of bilateral ties as well as the most important international issues.

In a separate meeting afterwards, the top Iranian diplomat had talks with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Maria Mogherini, who has joined the UN representatives in the conference.

The International conference on reconstruction of Iraq is being held with participation of representatives of 50 countries for 3 days.

The event aims at gathering financial aids to reconstruct war-torn areas, paving the way for presenting radical solution to internal conflicts, renovation of Iraqi national and local capacities, reinforcing society and balancing the reconstruction process and the national reconciliation program as well as attracting foreign investment
