France committed to JCPOA: Foreign Ministry Spox

France is attached to the implementation of the JCPOA and will continue to support it as long as Iran upholds all of its nuclear obligations.

Iran Press/Europe: The comments made by France Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Monday in his daily briefing.

The nuclear agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was unanimously backed by the UN Security Council through UNSCR 2231 and is a key element of the non-proliferation regime and an important factor for international and regional security.

This is while, French Ambassador to the Washington Gérard Araud, in some irresponsible and nonsense statements, wrote on his Tweeter account on 13 April that “it’s false to say that at the expiration of JCPOA, Iran will be allowed to enriching uranium. Under the NPT and its additional protocol, it will have to prove, under strict monitoring, that its nuclear activities are civilian.”

In response to the comments, only hours after his appointment, France’s newly appointed ambassador to Iran, Philippe Thiebaud was summoned by the head of Iran’s JCPOA secretariat, Seyyed Hossein Meydani.

Furthermore, in reaction to the Saturday tweets, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had tweeted “if tweets by @GerardAraud represent French position, we're facing a major violation of the object and purpose of the JCPOA and UNSCR 2231, needs immediate clarification by Paris, or we act accordingly.”104/213
