The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, referring to recent riots in Iran said that the nation has successfully foiled a dangerous plot.

Iran Press/Iran news: "The grave, extensive and very dangerous conspiracy that Global Arrogance and Zionism had invested so much in and prepared for so long, that they could cause this destruction, villainy, and murder in Iran at a crucial time was quashed by the presence of the people," Ayatollah Khamenei said on Wednesday in a meeting with a group of Basij commanders and Basijis.

On the occasion of the National Week of Mobilized Forces (Basij), a group of Basij Commanders and Basijis from across the nation met with Ayatollah Khamenei this morning, Iran Press reported.

"Police and security forces entered the scene and performed their duties, but what the nation did during this week was more important than any other measure. The movement started in Tabriz and Zanjan, spread to all cities, villages, and this great movement took place in Tehran," the Leader said.

"I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the great Iranian nation for their magnificent movement during recent days. The people proved again that they are powerful and great, and defeated the big conspiracy of the enemy with their presence on the scene," he noted.

The rioters took advantage of a series of public protests that broke out in Iran on November 15 after the government announced a gasoline rationing measure.

Iran has, over the past days, arrested over 100 ringleaders and masterminds of the violent attacks.

The Judiciary has said a number of those elements were tied to the notorious US-backed Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) terror group, royalists as well as separatists — who were nabbed in the country’s border provinces — besides members of organized groups trained towards staging acts of sabotage.
