Iranian President and his French counterpart have held talks in New York on ways to ease regional tensions and save the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

Iran PressAmerica: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and French President Emmanuel Macron conferred Monday afternoon (local time) in New York on the sidelines of the seventy-fourth session of the UN General Assembly.

According to Pars Today, Rouhani and Macron reiterated their resolve to develop bilateral and multilateral relations and cooperation between Iran and France and discussed the detail of the efforts of France and other parties in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on fulfilling its commitments as a multilateral and international agreement, the region's sensitive conditions and Rouhani's new initiative to safeguard the Persian Gulf region called the "Hormuz Peace Initiative".

In the meeting, Rouhani emphasized the duties and responsibilities of other parties to the JCPOA, including France, to uphold this important international agreement after the US unilaterally and illegally withdrew and criticized the Monday's statement of France, UK, and Germany as baseless accusations and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Emanuel Macron also welcomed the Iranian President's plan for the security of the Persian Gulf region, outlining French efforts to assist in the implementation of the JCPOA and called for European cooperation with other parties to the agreement, particularly Russia and China.

The French president also emphasized the engagement and dialogue with Iran as an influential country in the region and the continuation of the constructive relations between Paris and Tehran.

Rouhani arrived in New York late on Monday to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Upon his arrival at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, Rouhani said we hope that we will be able to deliver the regional nations’ message which is peace and an end to any intervention in the sensitive Persian Gulf and the Middle East.

“I will also get the Iranian nation’s message across to the international community. The Iranian people are suffering from a cruel economic war. Iran is a nation of resistance and wants everyone to return to their commitments and laws,” added Rouhani who was talking to the Iranian media in the airport.

President Rouhani will deliver a speech to the UN General Assembly session on Wednesday.
